The project Summer House in Southern Burgenland (Austria) describes a sharp-edged cubature which fits into its surroundings through its simplicity and homogeneous appearance. In being used as a summer house, and by virtue of the installation of a wine cellar with production surfaces at a later date, the building’s design is oriented by the cubature of the Kellerstöckel(wine house) typical of the Southern Burgenland region. © Martin Weiß The cellar contains rooms for wine storage and production; the aboveground rooms are for residential use.

An intervention of this kind should impose a coeval language based on the sobriety and simplicity of the architectural elements, offering continuity and depth to the gardens and simultaneously, emphasizing the scenic effect of the Palace

At its full built out in the 50’s the site had a strong, block-like character, consisting of large scale simple industrial buildings with a dense urban character.
