New Cultural Center of Meudon-la-Forêt / Serero Architects

Courtesy of Serero Architects First Prize-winner of the competition for the new cultural center of Meudon-la-Forêt, Serero Architects has designed a building wrapped by an organic concrete shell. The project will be presented at the mediatheque of Meudon until July 10th, 2010. More images and architect’s description after the break.

Santa & Cole Landscape Architecture Competition

Santa & Cole, the Spanish Association of Landscape Architects and the European Biennial of Landscape Architecture announce the first Santa & Cole Landscape Architecture Competition, a Europe-wide competition of ideas intended to promote and reward good professional landscape architecture work in Spain, as a new culture which modifies and enriches the surroundings. Held biennially within the framework of the European Biennial of Landscape Architecture, each competition will consider a different sphere of action.
This first competition will reward the landscape architecture intervention in the Valle de Sant Pere, within the Belloch property, situated in the municipality of La Roca del Vallés, Barcelona.
2010 Washington UNBUILT Awards

The 2010 Washington UNBUILT Awards Program recognizes excellence in projects that to date remain unbuilt – theoretical, academic, and other unbuilt projects. Projects entered will be displayed and judged as part of the DesignDC conference in August 2010. This competition is conducted by the Washington Chapter/AIA and is conducted independently of other awards programs sponsored by the National American Institute of Architects and other AIA components.
This program is open to all registered architects, landscape architects, planners, interior designers, associate architects, and students in the Washington Metropolitan area. Unbuilt architectural design projects of any type are eligible. There are not geographical, or other restrictions on the location of projects entered that ultimately may be built.

Sea Change 2030+

The competition is seeking ideas to deal with sea level rise from 2030 and into the future. Put simply it is an international ideas competition which aims to positively engage in thinking about the future of Sydney Harbour framed by our changing climate. Can green houses be incorporated in skyscrapers?
What are the urban design strategies for food production in cities?

What is required to remove foreclosure signs on lawns and convert them to gardens?
The proposals can be for a real or speculative project, for one or more real sites, and located either in the U.S. or applicable to U.S. sites. Further, the proposals need not be generated exclusively for this competition, provided that they address the intent of the competition.

Integrated Habitat Design Competition

INTEGRATED HABITAT DESIGN COMPETITION (IHDC)
Integrated habitat design inspires development that maintains the health of the natural systems that we all depend on. The IHDC competition emphasises that working with nature, adapting to climate change and enhancing biodiversity is integral to the design of our urban, suburban and rural built developments. For example, a bee should never be further than 20 metres from a food source within the site and a hedgehog should be able to cross the scheme in safety.
This competition is open to individuals and teams. Submissions can be for any built environment design project (new build, retrofit) in an urban, suburban or rural location, of any size, anywhere in the UK, but must take into account each of the 6 Design Criteria – Ecosystem Services, Nature, Water, Energy & Low-carbon, Livability, Economics.
Winners will be selected by judges from the worlds of ecology, architecture, engineering, landscaping and climate change adaptation. A101 Block City Masterplan Competition / Call for portfolios

A101 Block City Masshtab Development Company is announcing a competition for the design of the masterplan for A101 Block City: an area of 127 ha with over 1 million sqm of housing in the A101 project. The A101 project is a new town of around 150.000 people and 13 million sq m of housing located south of Moscow. The Masterplan competition has two stages: the first stage is an open selection procedure for architects and urban designers based on portfolios, the second one an invited competition among four selected participants.
