On Line explores the radical transformation of the medium of drawing throughout the twentieth century, a period when numerous artists subjected the traditional concepts of drawing to a critical examination and expanded the medium’s definition in relation to gesture and form. In a revolutionary departure from the institutional definition of drawing, and from the reliance on paper as the fundamental support material, artists instead pushed line across the plane into real space, thus questioning the relation between the object of art and the world.

Click here to view the embedded video. Upon its completion in October 1958, the Union Tank Car Dome , located north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was the largest clear-span structure in the world. Based on the engineering principles of the visionary design scientist and philosopher Buckminster Fuller, this geodesic dome was, at 384 feet in diameter, the first large scale example of this building type.

Libeskind's Denver Art Museum Ā© Bitter Bredt Yesterday, it was announced that Daniel Libeskind will design a landmark building for the UK that will house the new Institute for Democracy and Conflict Resolution.Ā As part of the University of Essex , the UKās highest ranked university for social science research, this new building seeks to become an āinternational beacon for democracyā as it will build upon the universityās 40 years of practical and academic expertise in the field of human rights, justice and governance.Ā Libeskind commented, āI consider it an honor to be involved in a project with such visionary humanitarian objectives. I have always believed that democratic openness and conflict resolution is critical not only in the political sphere but in the making of architectural space.ā More about the project after the break
