Its volume locates like a longitudinal bar perpendicular to the street with the double purpose of facing North (Sun and better views) and allowing a big free space for the garden.

Tokyo/LA Houses Exhibition Charity Auction

The goal was to highlight 20 Japanese and 20 Californian architectural practices that explore new efficiencies of scale, construction and reduced ecological impact, posing innovative possibilities for the future of small-scale residential design

Peter Zumthor’s Design Revealed for the 2011 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion

Courtesy of Serpentine Gallery Pavilion Pritzker Prize winning architect Peter Zumthor’s design for the 11th Serpentine Gallery Pavilion was revealed today. A design that ‘aims to help its audience take the time to relax, to observe and then, perhaps, start to talk again – maybe not’, the materials are significant in aiding the design which emphasizes the role the senses and emotions play in our experience of architecture. The Pavilion will be Zumthor’s first completed building in the UK Zumthor shared that ‘the concept for this year’s Pavilion is the hortus conclusus, a contemplative room, a garden within a garden.

Stadium for International Lunar Olympics / Brian Harms & Keith Bradley

atrium floor When Brian Harms and Keith Bradley found a competition with such a unique premise, calling for the design of a moon stadium, they were interested in designing for an environment with which they were unfamiliar. The competition allowed them certain freedoms not typically present in an architectural studio project. This was the first time the two fifth year architecture students of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo collaborated on a design project and hope to work with each other again in the future.

Colorado Court / Brooks + Scarpa

Implementing energy efficient measures above and beyond the standard practices of the time, this project was able to optimize its building performance and ensure reduced energy use during all phases of construction and continuing upon occupancy. The initial planning and design of Colorado Court was a direct derivative of an emphasis on passive solar design strategies

Ohio State University – Student Academic Services / Acock Associates Architects

© Matthew Carbone A main gateway to The Ohio State University campus in Columbus, Ohio, the once 400-car surface parking lot has been transformed into the Student Academic Services building with a connected nine deck parking garage. The new Student Academic Services building houses the following: Student Financial Aid, Testing Center, Office of Minority Affairs, Registrar’s Office, Bursar’s Office and other admission services.
